Kentucky Academic Advising Association

About the Treasurer

I am proud to serve as the Treasurer for KACADA.  I believe strongly in this organization’s goal of unifying and networking academic advisors across the Commonwealth, and am happy to be of assistance in this effort.  As a relatively new professional who has been working in academic advising for a year, I am excited to learn more about the profession and in particular, the specifics peculiar to advising in universities in Kentucky.
I believe that effective advising is crucial for a university to fully serve its student body.  We serve all of the campus community including students, faculty and parents.  Besides guiding students through the academic regulations and requirements of college, an academic advisor should be a resource for information, encouragement and support for his or her advisees.  Advisors help students solve problems, direct them towards valuable campus services, instill the importance of good academic habits and generally improve the college experience and therefore increase retention and graduation.
My alma mater is Western Kentucky University, where I earned both a bachelor of arts degree in studio art in 2003 and a master of arts in education in student affairs in 2005.  Before accepting my current position as an academic advisor in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Kentucky in 2007, I worked for two years at Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tennessee in student affairs.

Responsibilities of the Treasurer

The treasurer will have custody of all KACADA funds and shall maintain such deposits in a federally insured depository institution approved by the Executive Committee. The Treasurer shall serve on the Professional Development Committee. The Treasurer shall also maintain a register accounting for all receipts and disbursements, provide year to date and annual reports at Executive Committee and Annual Meetings, and have the books available for audit prior to the Annual Meeting. The fiscal year will be from September 1st through August 31st.  The Treasurer serves a two year term.
