NACADA REGION 3 LIAISON CANDIDATES
Steve Davis-Rosenbaum, University of Kentucky
Academic Advisor College of Arts and Sciences University of Kentucky 1986 M.F.A. University of Georgia, Athens, Georgia 1979 B.S. Lewis and Clark College, Portland, Oregon I have been advising students for over 19 years – almost three at UK and 16 as faculty at another institution. I believe the KACADA is an important organization that should support and strengthen Advisors professionally advancing best practices. In addition, as an organization that represents academic advisors from all Kentucky universities and colleges, it should provide a forum for advisors to professionally develop and share best practices. Kentucky needs to have a strong voice in Region 3 and I feel I can articulate Kentucky’s KACADA’s vision to the Region. In addition to working with different regions in NACADA, I would be able to bring back to advisors at Kentucky’s Universities and Colleges resources, programs and best practices to KACADA. I feel I have the resources and talents needed to be the KACADA’s representative to the NACADA.
Lee Kem, Murray State University
Working with the Kentucky Association of Academic Advising is a great opportunity. KACADA brings advising home to Kentucky and enables us to address the issues from a national and a state perspective. For advisors who cannot attend the national or regional conferences, we can bring to Kentucky up-to-date ideas for enhancing student success through advising. In addition, this approaches brings together advisors from across the state to discuss relevant issues and exchange ideas to help learn more about what works at other universities and colleges and to expand our horizons to incorporate new advising approaches. KACADA interactions can provide ideas about ways to implement the updated information and changes recommended by the Council on Post Secondary Education. I have been a member of the National Academic Advising Association for 11 years and have served as the chair of the Advising Education Majors Commission, and the NACADA Steering Committee and Membership Committee. I am currently actively involved in the Faculty Advising Commission and the First Generation Interest Group. I was co-chair of the 2005 NACADA Regional 3 Conference in Louisville. I am an Associate Professor in the College of Education at Murray State University. As Director of the College of Education Advising Center, I advise elementary education majors and teach EDU099 freshman Transitions class for all incoming education majors. My Ph.D. is in educational psychology. I also coordinate the educational psychology courses, and am the coordinator of the Human Development and Leadership master’s program.
