Kentucky Academic Advising Association

Responsibilities of the Communications Chairperson

The Communications Chair shall maintain the Association’s website and coordinate the publication of the Association’s biannual newsletter.

COMMUNICATIONS CHAIRPERSON CANDIDATE

Margaret Murray, University of Louisville

I am interested in the position of Chair of the Communications Committee because of my experience with graphic design applications and practice.  My interests in advising lean towards the counseling (rather than fully prescriptive) side.  I enjoy coming up with creative ways to promote engagement in student learning.  Those frequently involve the use of images and text to create an educational game.  I have a BFA in Visual Art as well as a Master’s degree in Library Science from UNC Chapel Hill.  I very much enjoyed assisting with the 2009 KACADA conference, and likewise being the appointed Chair for the remainder of the 2009-10 term.  I am interested in the position of Chair of the Communications Committee because I would like to support KACADA and assist in planning the 2011 Conference.  I would like to improve the website, create supporting materials for the 2011 conference, and provide technical assistance.  In particular I would like to assist in the selection of an official KACADA logo and updated graphics for the website.  I am currently on the technology committee at U of L. I am developing a program for e-advising, and I also maintain the A&S Advising website.  I used my experience with Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Dreamweaver and Second Life to design the first online Freshmen Orientation course in A&S at U of L in 2009.  I hope to implement the above ideas, and lend all of my qualities and skills to the position of Chair of the Communications Committee.
I originally come from New Orleans, Louisiana.  My father grew up in Louisville and I have been lucky enough to hear many stories of its cultural heritage.  I am very happy and comfortable with Louisville’s eclectic culture and historic architecture.  I enjoy working with the students at the University of Louisville more than any other study body I have worked with.  Working with KACADA would fit my interests in increasing my involvement with scholastics in Kentucky.  I am also interested in cooking, art, and health fitness.
